And it gets even harder when there are so many options in the market.

1. Braun Series 7 790CC — Most Sold Electric Shaver Since 2010
The Series 7 790CC by Braun, is the most sold electric shaver of all time since its launch in 2010.
And there must be a good reason for it.
Braun is one of the well known Germany tech giant for its high quality in manufacturing technology.
This electric foil shaver provides an amazingly close and gentle shaving experience.
Its shaver head consist of 4 Shaving elements, with 2 OptiFoils on the sides, 1 ActiveLift trimmer in between the OptiFoils and a Protective SkinGuard.
The OptiFoil trimmers can help to cover more facial hairs in lesser strokes when you shave while the ActiveLift helps to lift up and cut short, in-grown hairs.
Also worth mentioning, the Braun 790CC is a Pulsonic shaver capable of producing up to 10,000 micro-vibrations per minute.
Coupled with OptiFoil technology, the Braun 790CC can capture and cut more hairs in lesser strokes.
The 8 direction (8-D) flexible shaving head has no issues to stick and move around your face contour during shaves. This makes edging your beard and mustache very easy.
Depending on your skin type and hair thickness, there are 3 Personalization modes you can choose from: Normal, Intensive and Extra Sensitive (which varies in cutting speeds).
The Braun Series 7 790CC, as its model name implies, comes with the Clean and Charge Station (CC), which is an alcohol based Cleaning and Charging dock that can eliminate 99% germs with a push of button while cleaning the shaving head.
A pop up trimmer is available to help for trimming beards and mustache.
The only downside of this electric shaver is its lack of Wet & Dry Technology, which would not be a problem if you don’t shave in the shower or not using any shaving cream.
If you do shave in wet and love all the Braun Series 7 features, 799CC is the alternative with a higher price tag.
Overall, the Braun Series 7 790CC is my all time favorite and I think it is the best electric shaver in 2018.
A great shaver with solid build quality, 3 advance trimmers, clean and charge dock, flexible pivoting head for comfortable close shave.
It is also the most budget friendly shaver available in the market.
- Budget Friendly
- Flexible Pivoting Head
- 3 Personalization Modes
- Solid Build Quality
- Clean & Charge Station
- Lack of Wet & Dry Technology
2. Panasonic Arc 5 — Best Electric Razor for Close Shaving
Panasonic, a Japanese brand; which means a company that never compromise in high quality products.
Number 2 on our list is the Panasonic Arc 5.
This electric shaver is amazingly good when it comes to close shaving.
The end results is almost comparable to a manual razor.
The Panasonic Arc 5 comes with 5 trimmer blades which provides extremely close shave.
- Three Slit Foils that helps cutting out long bulky facial hairs
- One Lift-Tech trimmer to capture flat lying and in-grown hairs
- One Finishing Foil that helps with cutting hairs that grows in diffferent directions
The multi-direction pivoting shaver head helps a lot during shaving with its capability to move around your face contour.
We think that this electric shaver is good for those people with thick and heavy beards as it performs extremely well when cutting the hairs.
The 14,000 CPM linear motor is designed to prevent tugging or pulling the facial hair during shaves.
There’s a pop up trimmer to help with mustache and beard trimming and there’s also LED display that indicates the battery life.
Although the Panasonic Arc 5 performance is fantastic, we feel that it is still less comfortable comparing to other shavers in our list. The shaver head is a little bulky and it makes it harder to reach the neck area properly.
If you have sensitive skin, this shaver is also missing the comfortability you need.
- 5 Advanced Trimmers
- Multi-direction pivoting head
- Best Closing Shaving Electric Razor
- Good for thick heavy beards
- Wet & Dry Technology
- Lack of comfortability
- Itchiness after shave (specially sensitive skins)
3. Braun Series 9 9095CC — Latest Electric Razor by Braun
Latest Series launched by Braun is the Series 9 Electric Razors.
The Series 9, 9095CC is the most favorited and number three on our list for the top 10 best electric shaver in 2018.
This electric shaver is made of mostly Shiny Chrome Plastic.
At the first touch, the shaver feels really solid and easy to grip on.
The only thing is the shiny surface that attracts finger prints and smudges all over the shaver.
Apart from that, Braun has added a new trimmer to this model, known as “Direct & Cut” trimmer that helps to cut out hairs that grows in different directions and upgraded the ActiveLift trimmer (in 790CC) to HyperLift Trimmer.
This brand new Series 9 Shaver is capable of producing up to 40,000 cross-cutting actions per minutes.
It means fast, really fast.
And it does provide more closer shaves than the Braun Series 7 790CC although the difference is not obvious.
The Braun Series 9 9095CC electric shaver comes with 5-actions Clean & Charge Station which can clean, charge, lubricates and dry the shaver.
The battery takes about an hour to get fully charged while providing around 50 minutes of shaving.
A pop up trimmer is also available in this model.
Although the chrome plastic does make it look premium, the all-plastic build makes it feel less premium given the price tag that came with it.
Overall, the Braun 9095CC has all the features of the Braun Series 7 790CC and it also has the Wet & Dry technology which was missing in the 790CC. If you don’t shave in wet, then it’d be cheaper to consider getting the Braun Series 7 790CC.
On top of that, it contains one extra trimmer that helps cut down hairs that grows in different directions.
- Close Shaving Experience
- Wet & Dry Technology
- New “Direct & Cut” Trimmer
- Clean & Charge Station
- Chrome Plastic Body attracts fingerprints
- Poor build quality (all plastic)
4. Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D — Best Rotary Shaver for Head & Beards
When it comes to Rotary shavers, no other brands can beat Philips in this technology.
The Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D Shaver is number four in our top ten list, being the most comfortable rotary shaver you can find in the market.
Rotary shavers are designed to provide more comfortable experience during shaves and it is no doubt that this electric shaver provides exactly just that.
It sticks to your skin and move smoothly following your facial contour during shave while providing really efficient and close shaving experience.
The pivoting shaver head known as the GyroFlex 3D is the one to thank for the fluid-like face contour following feature.
The UltraTrack heads cover 50% more skin surface with three shaving tracks that catch every hair and it is so comfortable that we would even recommend it for bald guys.
On top of the shaver head, mounted 3 independent round foils with the “Super Lift & Cut” feature. It helps to catch the hairs on jaw line, neck and also the in-grown hairs, flat hairs and stubbles.
This electric shaver also has the Wet & Dry technology, ideal for those who shave with creams or in shower.
The downside of this shaver is the built-in battery which leaves you no choice but to replace a new shaver if it were to go out of order. Also the all-plastic and rubber build makes it feel less premium, especially with the price tag it came with.
Overall, this is an advanced and amazingly comfortable rotary shaver with all the great features you can expect from a shaver.
- 3 Dimension Pivoting Head
- Extremely comfortable and close shave
- Wet & Dry Technology
- Plastic and rubber build
- Built-in battery (can’t be replaced)
- Expensive Replacement parts
5. Panasonic Arc 4 — Budget Friendly Electric Razor for Close Shaving
Just like the Panasonic Arc 5 mentioned above, this Panasonic Arc 4 electric shaver provides an extremely close shave. But it is also lack of the comfortabilities.
This shaver is almost the same like Panasonic Arc 5 but only with 4 trimming blades in the shaver head.
The shaver head comes with 4 extremely sharp, durable blades for close shaving experience. Its head can pivot at 30 degrees in multiple directions.
Its 14,000 CPM dual action motor is capable to deliver powerful close shaves along with an LED panel that displays the motor speed and battery life on the shaver’s body.
It takes the Panasonic Arc 4 about 50 minutes to get fully charged while providing up to 40 minutes shaves.
This shaver does not come with a clean and charge dock, which I think could be the reason why it is available at a much cheaper price tag.
If it doesn’t bother you to clean the shaver manually by rinsing it under the tap, then this definitely is not going to be an issue at all.
Since this shaver has almost the same specs as the Panasonic Arc 5, there is really nothing much to write about it.
If you like a cheaper alternative to Arc 5, here are the pros and cons of this shaver.
- Affordable Price
- Close Shave
- LED Display
- Multi-direction Pivoting Head
- Lack of Comfortability
- No Clean and Charge Station
6. Philips Norelco AT830 — Most Popular Electric Rotary Shaver
Philips Norelco AT830 was first introduced in 2012 and it is one of the most popular the market.
If you are looking for a rotary shaver with minimal budget, this AT830 might be an ideal option for you as it has really affordable price tag. Importantly, It does shave really comfortable and smooth on skin.
The Norelco AT830 comes with a lot of useful features and little drawbacks.
It has Wet&Dry Technology, DualPrecision trimmer (which allows the head to tackle long hairs and short stubbles), and the shaving head can pivot a little to reach the facial hairs.
The battery life of this Norelco AT830 is great.
It takes around an hour to get fully charged and can provide up to 50 minutes of shaving. You can easily get 8-10 shaves on a single charge.
Rotary shavers were invented for comfortable shaving experience; and Norelco AT830 has definitely excel in this field.
Obviously, for a rotary shaver with so many handy features at low price tag, it doesn’t come with a Clean and Charge station.
Good thing though, the Philips Norelco AT830 is very easy to clean.
A pop-up trimmer is also available if you need to trim your sideburns and mustache.
Here are the pros and cons at a glance.
- DualPrecision Trimmer
- Wet & Dry Technology
- Long lasting battery life
- Very Quiet when operating
- Comfortable and skin friendly
- Affordable and easy to clean
- Pivoting head angle is limited
7. Braun CoolTec — Advanced Electric Shaver for Sensitive Skin
Number 7 is another electric shaver from Braun, the German tech giant.
The Braun Cool Tec is a shaver designed for sensitive skin with its TEC (Thermo Electric Cooling) technology.
The most unique feature of this shaver is the Cooling technology made for sensitive skins.
This electric shaver will keep your skin cool when you’re shaving so you don’t leave the washroom with after shave red patches on your face. This feature also helps to prevent irritation during shaves by minimizing the burning and redness.
The Braun CoolTec also comes with Wet&Dry technology. You can use it under shower or on dry skin while cleaning the shaver is as easy as rinsing with water.
SensoBlade was introduced in this electric shaver to capture hairs growing in multiple directions.
The battery life of this shaver can provide you up to 45 minutes of shaving and only takes about an hour to get fully charged.
However, if you’re using the cooling feature, the battery life can quickly drain to 15 minutes of usage from full charge. You can turn on/off the cooling feature with a single button
It is also worth noting that the CoolTec function doesn’t really work so well with shaving creams or foams.
Overall, we think that the Braun CoolTec is a unique shaver with great features, design and comfortability. It is also very affordable and also good for people with sensitive skins. But recharging the battery for every 15 minutes of shaving might turn you off if you must use the cooling feature on every shaves.
- Thermo Cooling Technology
- Suitable for Sensitive Skin
- Wet&Dry Shaver
- Short battery life while using Cooling feature
8. Panasonic Arc 3 — Best Budget Cordless Electric Shaver
Close shaving has always been the main focus of Panasonic’s electric shavers.
So it doesn’t matter which range and models of Panasonic you’re getting, you will always get the best close shaving experience out of their shavers.
Number 8, we have the Panasonic Arc 3.
You may have guessed it. This electric razor comes with 3 extremely sharp nanotech blades and a flexible pivoting shaver head.
The Panasonic Arc 3 has Wet & Dry technology, 3 sharp hypoallergenic blades, LED indicator for battery life and a pivoting head. All the advanced features you can get from a electric shaver for just under $70.
Like we have mentioned above, the hypoallergenic blades, means it is suitable for sensitive skins.
The adjustable pivoting head sticks around your face contour to provide close and smooth shaves.
Overall, the Panasonic Arc 3 is providing a lot of great features at a very affordable price tag. One fo the reason Panasonic is able to keep its price low could be due to the absent of Clean and Charge station for this model.
But I don’t think it would be a problem for many of us, to just spend another minute rinsing the shaver with water.
The battery life is also great and the Wet & Dry feature allows you to shave in the shower, or with shaving foam or on dry skin.
Here are the summarized pros and cons:
- Wet & Dry Feature
- Adjustable Pivoting Head
- Hypoallergenic Shaving Blades (suitable for sensitive skins)
- Good battery life
- Slight irritations
- Noisy Motor
- Absent of Clean and Charge dock
9. Remington F5-5800 — Most Budget Electric Shaver (Under $50)
When it comes to electric shaver, Remington is a well-known brand that is hardly forgotten by many.
In fact, they where the first brand to introduce the cordless charging system for electric razors.
Remington has designed a lot of entry level to mid-range level electric shavers.
Particularly this Remington F5-5800, which is extremely affordable and good enough to be on our top ten shaver list.
The F5-5800 comes with 2 foils and a trimmer in its shaving head which can pivot upward and downwards. It can move around your facial contours easily to provide comfortable shaves.
This shaver performs really well on sensitive skin as it causes very little to almost no irritations. Comparing to other high end shavers listed above like the Braun 790CC, the Remington basically works well on my skin.
Sadly though, the shaver is made up of all plastics and feels cheap. The blades also requires replacement after 3-4 months usage, which will be additional costs.
But given the fact that it provides comfortable shaves and being an entry level shaver, I think these few drawbacks can easily be ignored; as the price is very affordable (under $50),
- Extremely Affordable (Under $50)
- Comfortable Smooth Shaving
- Flexible Pivoting Head
- Does not provide close shave
- Requirements parts replacement as often as 3-4 months usage
10. Wahl 8061 — Best Electric Shaver for Sensitive Skins
You probably know Wahl as an American brand. But did you know Wahl is also the choice of many professional barbers?
The Wahl 8061 is powerful, bump-free, solid and yet affordable electric shaver favored by many professional barbers. Its performance fits the requirements of any man.
The DynaFlex cutting system that came with this electric razor helps the shaver reach and stick to harder areas like jaw line and neck. Helps a lot when edging your beard and mustache.
DynaFlex gives flexbility to the shaver to prevent all types of burns and cuts that you may get during shaves.
On top of that, there is also hypoallergenic foils to provide smooth and close shaving with antimicrobial protection. This is definitely an ideal choice for those with allergy skins.
The Wahl 8061 has a very straightforward and easy to use design. And even with all plastic build, the shaver still feels premium in your hand.
A pop-up trimmer is also available to help you trim your mustache and beard.
I can’t really recommend you to get this shaver if you only shave every 2-3 days as the Wahl 8061 is more of a finish shaver. It works great with stubble hairs, but not so for the longer hairs.
Overall, this electric shaver is very straightforward to use and performs quite well for everyday shaving. It has antimicrobial protections, flexible shaver head, easy to use and easy to clean. The long lasting battery life also makes it ideal if you travel often and shave daily.
- Hypoallergenic and Anti-microbial Foil
- Easy to Use, Easy to Clean
- Long Lasting Battery Life
- Affordable Price Tag (Cheap!)
- The Shaver Vibrates A lot
- Lack of Wet & Dry Feature
- Only Suitable for Everyday Shaving
Electric Shaver Buying Guide
Modern electric shavers comes in different combination of technology and shapes.
It is easy to become confuse when you’re presented with dozens and dozens of choices.
Before choosing the right electric shaver, do consider these factors before deciding what a good electric shaver meant to yourself.
- Foil vs Rotary Shaver Heads
- Wet vs Dry Shaving
- Trimmer Attachments vs Separated Beard Trimmer
- Budget Factors (Replacement Parts, Cleaning Solutions)
- Self-Cleaning vs Manual Cleaning
Rotary vs Foil – Which is best for you?
I have personally used both the Rotary and Foil shavers.
While the rotary shaver do provide comfortable shaving as what it was invented for; I find the lack of close and smooth shaves makes the feel of daily shaving routine incomplete as I would prefer a much cleaner and smoother facial skin.
Foil shavers on the other hand, are the experts when it comes to closeness. They usually comes with sharp trimmer blades and other advanced technology combinations which you should really consider when you’re getting a new electric shaver.
- Pop-up Trimmer: Most shavers come with a built-in trimmer which can be popped out to help with grooming the sideburns and mustaches. But honestly, I don’t really recommend you to use it too often with heavy thick beards before you shave. As they are built-in, most the time they are non-replaceable parts. Soon as it wears out, you’ll have no choice but to stop using or get a separate trimmer for the job.
- Clean and Charge Station: Electric Shavers that comes with these clean and charge dock will usually cost more money while it can provide you the convenient of easy cleaning. But many of us might not see rinsing the shaver under water manually as a deal breaker if the shaver doesn’t come with one and has much affordable price tag. Which also bring us to our next point below.
- Wet & Dry Feature: allows electric shavers to be used under the shower, shaving gel or dry skin. And it also indicate whether or not it’ll be safe for you to manually rinse your electric shaver under running water. This is where the technology comes in handy.
- Corded and Cordless Shaver: It is also important to find out whether the electric shaver allows you to shave when plugged in. Like the Braun Series 9 doesn’t operate when it is plugged in while the Series 7 do allow it.
- Battery Life and Indicator: The battery indicator (usually LED panel) would come in useful to keep you updated with the current battery level while a long lasting battery life means you will require less recharging routine if you shave frequently and it is especially important if you’re running late for a date and your electric razor doesn’t allow shaving when it is plugged in.
Importantly, you should always consider about features that comes with the shaver, do you ultimately need to have them or it’s just going to be a hype.
If there are several electric shavers with almost identical performance and features, I think it would make much perfect sense to go with the one that costs lesser.
This pretty much concludes my takes on choosing the best electric shaver.
Some products mentioned in our best shaver list may go out of stock or discontinued. I will be sure to update them from time to time to keep it relevant for you all.
So, which of the best electric shaver are you currently using?
